Personal Evangelism Honor

Missionary & Community Activities

Requirements

  1. Lead a person to baptism through Bible study.

Answer: You must present to the instructor the record of a person who accepted Jesus and was baptized after a Bible study conducted by you: name (with permission), the church where they were baptized, the baptism date, the number of studies carried out (usually 15-25 lessons, such as the course 'In the Light of the Bible', 'Living Hope', or Voice of Prophecy), the themes studied (God, salvation, the Sabbath, the Second Coming, tithing, baptism), and the testimony of the baptized person with their permission. — Personal evangelism is the essence of the Adventist mission. Studies such as 'In the Light of the Bible' (with 25 lessons) or Voice of Prophecy (a correspondence course) train people along the way. On average, conversions arise from 15-30 systematic studies. Before baptism, there is an interview with the pastor to confirm an understanding of the doctrines. The Adventist Church baptizes by full immersion, symbolizing the death and resurrection of Christ.

  2. Have a collection of 5 Bible studies, on paper or with audiovisual resources, that can be used in Bible preaching.

Answer: You must present to the instructor a collection of 5 Bible studies ready for evangelistic use: for example, 1) The 'In the Light of the Bible' course (CPB, 25 printed lessons); 2) 'Living Hope' (CPB, 8-12 basic lessons); 3) Voice of Prophecy or Hope Channel videos (audiovisual); 4) Sabbath School Lesson studies. — CPB (Casa Publicadora Brasileira) publishes the main Adventist courses. 'In the Light of the Bible' has 25 lessons covering the entire doctrinal package. Hope Channel offers short videos. Voice of Prophecy has run a correspondence course for more than 70 years. Customized personal material connects better with a specific audience. Having a ready-made collection speeds up the study when an urgent interested person appears who needs to be attended to.

  3. Have a collection of at least 20 quotations from the Spirit of Prophecy regarding Personal Evangelism. Keep these quotations on cards or noted in your study Bible.

Answer: Ellen G. White wrote more than 40 books and thousands of articles. 'Evangelism' is a compilation of her main writings on the subject. Famous quotes: 'The greatest work entrusted to the church is the saving of souls' and 'Every Christian is to be a missionary.' Indexing quotations on cards (or a digital app) is a historical practice of Adventist pastors and church workers around the world since the beginning of the movement.

  4. Have the Bible Marking Honor, so as to have a chain of themes in your Bible to be used in your studies.

Answer: You must present to the instructor the duly signed card for the Bible Marking Honor as a prerequisite for Personal Evangelism, proving that you have learned to mark verses with different colors (red for prophecies, green for the Christian life, blue for promises) and to make reference chains (linking verses on the same theme), allowing you to navigate themes quickly during Bible studies with interested people. — Bible marking is a classic evangelism technique: you start at one verse and follow a chain (Gen 3:15 → John 3:16 → Rom 5:8 → 1 John 3:1 → Rev 22:17). Experienced pastors and church workers carry a fully marked Bible, knowing where each doctrine is. Colors aid visual memorization. Without this Honor, conducting a fluid study becomes harder — which is why it is naturally a prerequisite for Personal Evangelism.

  5. Do 1 of the 2 activities below:
    • Serve as the director (leadership only) of the Personal Ministries of your church or group for one year, carrying out at least 5 activities with a missionary focus and having the cooperation of the church.
    • Present a complete report of the activities planned and carried out.
    • Complete the requirements below:

Answer: You must present to the instructor one of the options: 1) You were director of the church's Personal Ministries department for 1 year with at least 5 missionary activities (visitation, literature distribution, public evangelism, a week of prayer in the neighborhood, a Bible class) with the church's collaboration, along with a detailed report showing planning, execution, participants, results, and photos. — Personal Ministries is the department of the Adventist Church that coordinates personal evangelism. The director leads the Bible class, the training of church workers, and campaigns. A year in this position develops ministerial leadership. Common activities: Holy Week, distribution of the book of the year (CPB), Generation with Christ (GC), Caleb, and partnerships with pastors. A report with photos is the proof to the Honor instructor.
