God the Son Honor

Missionary Activities - Bible Studies

Requirements

  1. Know why God the Son received the name Jesus. (Matthew 1:21)

Answer: According to Matthew 1:21, the angel instructed that the boy be called JESUS, 'because he will save his people from their sins'. The name Jesus (from the Hebrew Yeshua) means 'The Lord saves' or 'Savior'. He received this name because his mission was precisely to save humanity from sin. — The very name of Jesus already reveals his mission: to come into the world to save sinners.

  2. Understand what Jesus' part was in the creation of the world, as He was identified by John as the "Word" of God. (John 1:2-3; Colossians 1:16-17)

Answer: John identifies Jesus as the 'Word' of God, who was with God in the beginning. According to John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16-17, all things were made through Him, and nothing that exists was made without Him; in Him all things hold together. That is, Jesus is the Creator, the active agent of God in the creation of all things, visible and invisible. — Jesus is not a creature: He is the Creator, by whom and for whom all things were made.

  3. Explain what Jesus' part was, in God's plan, to save the human being from death. (Luke 19:10)

Answer: According to Luke 19:10, 'the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost'. In God's plan, Jesus came into the world, lived without sin, died on the cross in the sinner's place, and rose again - paying the price of sin and offering salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him. — The central mission of Jesus was to save the human being from eternal death, giving His own life in our place.

  4. Know what the Bible says about the divine nature of Jesus. (John 10:30; Hebrews 1:3; John 1:1; Colossians 2:9)

Answer: The Bible teaches that Jesus is fully God: 'I and the Father are one' (John 10:30); He is the radiance of God's glory and the exact expression of His being (Hebrews 1:3); 'the Word was God' (John 1:1); and 'in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily' (Colossians 2:9). Jesus is eternal, Creator, and worthy of worship as God. — Christ is truly God - not an inferior being, but fully divine, eternal, and worthy of worship.

  5. Study what the Bible teaches about the human nature of Jesus. (John 1:14; Hebrews 4:15; 1 John 4:2; Philippians 2:6-8)

Answer: The Bible teaches that Jesus also became fully human: 'the Word became flesh and dwelt among us' (John 1:14); He was tempted in every way, as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15); He came in the flesh (1 John 4:2); and, being God, He emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, and became man, humbling Himself to the point of death on a cross (Philippians 2:6-8). Jesus is, therefore, at the same time, true God and true man. — Jesus took on our humanity to represent us and save us, understanding our weaknesses through experience.

  6. Memorize and recite the names or titles that the prophet Isaiah uses for Jesus. (Isaiah 9:6; 7:14)

Answer: The names and titles that the prophet Isaiah uses for Jesus are: 1) Isaiah 9:6 - 'Wonderful', 'Counselor', 'Mighty God', 'Everlasting Father', and 'Prince of Peace'. 2) Isaiah 7:14 - 'Immanuel', which means 'God with us'. These titles reveal the divinity, wisdom, eternity, and the mission of peace and salvation of the Messiah.

  7. Share with a friend the promises that Jesus makes to those who believe in Him. (John 11:25-26; 14:1-3)

Answer: The promises that Jesus makes to those who believe in Him: 1) John 11:25-26 - 'I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live; and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.' A promise of resurrection and eternal life, victory over death. 2) John 14:1-3 - Jesus promises to prepare a place in the Father's house and to come back to receive us: 'in my Father's house are many rooms... I go to prepare a place for you... I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.' A promise of the Second Coming and of dwelling eternally with Him. In summary: eternal life, resurrection, a home in Heaven, and the eternal presence of Christ.
