Evangelism Honor
Vocational Activities
Requirements
- Demonstrate that you have a personal devotional life for at least 6 months.
Answer: Maintain a regular devotional life for 6 months: daily Bible reading (15-30 min), regular prayer, meditation. — A devotional life strengthens your relationship with God. An annual plan reads the whole Bible in 1 year (3-4 chapters/day). Apps record progress automatically. A written journal helps to fix what you have learned. 6 months is the minimum time to create a real and lasting habit.
- Assemble an organizational chart with the Departments and current Presidency of your Conference/Mission. State the full name of each department director and their biography.
Answer: Access your Conference/Mission website (e.g.: associacaonordeste.adventistas.org). — Each Conference/Mission has ~10-15 departments. The official website publishes photos and mini-bios. The structure follows the guidance of the South American Division. Knowing the structure helps with Club projects. Names change every 5 years with new administrative terms.
- Interview your district pastor and obtain the following information about their ministerial service to the Church:
- I. Pastoral Work
- II. Personal
- III. Evangelist
- Write a brief report on each requirement.
Answer: Schedule an interview with your pastor. Ask about: 1) Pastoral work (visits, sermons, sacraments). — A district pastor usually cares for 5-10 churches. Their training includes Adventist Theology (4 years). Sunday sermons and Bible studies during the week. Evangelism is a central part of the work. Respect the pastor's schedule — make an appointment in advance.
- Through the study of the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy, learn how Jesus treated the crowds that sought Him. Cite at least 2 biblical passages and 2 more from the Spirit of Prophecy.
Answer: Jesus treated the multitudes with compassion, patience, teaching and the supplying of their needs. 1) Bible — Matthew 9:36: 'When he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.' 2) Bible — Mark 6:34: 'Jesus... was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things' (also John 6 — he fed the hungry). 3) Spirit of Prophecy — Ellen White, 'The Desire of Ages', chapter 'The Good Shepherd': Christ knew and welcomed each person in the multitude individually, with personal love. 4) Spirit of Prophecy — 'Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing' / 'The Ministry of Healing' (chapter 'Teaching and Healing'): Jesus mingled with people as one who desired their good, meeting their real needs before inviting them to follow Him (the 'method of Christ'). Lesson: the evangelist should imitate this compassion, individual attention and practical service to the multitudes. — Jesus treated people with compassion, listened, healed, taught. He did not react to the crowd's size but to its need. Ellen White develops this in 'The Desire of Ages'. Steps to Christ is an introduction to the gospel. Christ's treatment of people is a model for modern evangelists. Compassion before doctrine.
- Take part in 3 practical activities in the area of Evangelism:
- Take part in an evangelistic series led by the youth.
- Using one of the existing collections of Bible courses, give Bible studies to someone who is preparing for baptism.
- Make 4 visits to hospitals, holding a short devotional moment and a prayer at each one of them.
- Preach a sermon lasting at least 20 minutes.
- Lead the devotional moments at 2 evening services and at 2 morning services during a camp.
- On 5 different days, lead devotional moments at school or at your work.
- Attend 75% of the meetings of a series of conferences at your local church, obtaining the following information each night:
Answer: Choose 3 activities from the list and take part actively. Document: date, location, number of people involved, your role. — Practical evangelism is an essential part of the honor. Each activity has its nuance — a Bible study requires doctrinal preparation, a hospital requires pastoral sensitivity. Documentation serves as a portfolio. Diversifying activities strengthens multidimensional evangelistic skills.
- Submit in a brief report the biography of at least 3 great Christian evangelists, at least one of them Adventist.
Answer: Research 3 evangelists (1+ Adventist). — Ellen White (1827-1915) was an Adventist prophetess and prolific author. Billy Graham (1918-2018) preached to 215 million people. Spurgeon was the 'Prince of Preachers' (19th century). Wesley founded Methodism. Studying their stories inspires modern evangelism. Different contexts, same mission.
- Have a collection of sermons, written or digital, by an Adventist evangelist, through the Church's communication network.
Answer: Put together a collection of 5+ Adventist sermons. Sources: Novo Tempo, FELIZ7Play, the official YouTube. — Novo Tempo is the official Adventist channel in Brazil. FELIZ7Play is an Adventist streaming platform. YouTube has thousands of free sermons. Adventist Review and DSA News publish written messages. A personal collection helps with ongoing Bible study.
