    • High school
    • Technical education

Answer: The required training varies according to the level of education: 1) Early Childhood Education (daycare/preschool): a secondary-level Teacher Training course (Normal/Magistério) or, preferably, Pedagogy (teaching degree). 2) Early years of Elementary School (1st to 5th grade): a secondary-level Teacher Training course or a teaching degree in Pedagogy. 3) Final years of Elementary School (6th to 9th grade): a teaching degree in the specific subject (e.g.: Languages, Mathematics, History). 4) High School: a teaching degree in the subject to be taught. 5) Higher Education: an undergraduate degree in the field and, in general, a postgraduate degree (specialization, master's, or doctorate), with the required title depending on the institution.

  3. What is the difference between a teaching degree (licenciatura) and a bachelor's degree?

Answer: Teaching degree (licenciatura): a higher-education course that trains the professional to TEACH CLASSES (to be a teacher), including pedagogy subjects and a classroom internship. Bachelor's degree (bacharelado): a course that trains the professional to work in the technical or research area of that science, without automatic qualification to teach (e.g.: a bachelor in Mathematics works with calculations/research; a graduate with a teaching degree in Mathematics is a teacher). — A teaching degree trains the teacher; a bachelor's degree trains the professional in the field — it is the teaching degree that qualifies one to teach classes.

  4. What is required for a teacher's professional qualification in your State/Country?

Answer: In Brazil, to be a teacher it is generally necessary to have a higher-education TEACHING DEGREE (licenciatura) in the area to be taught (or a secondary-level Teacher Training course for early childhood and the early years, according to the legislation). In addition to the diploma, registration/qualification is usually required and, in public school systems, passing a public examination. — The basis is a teaching degree in the field; in public schools, a public examination is added.

  5. What is continuing education and what is its importance for teachers?

Answer: Continuing education is the constant improvement of the teacher after the initial training — courses, postgraduate studies, training programs, workshops, and updates throughout the career. It is important because knowledge, technology, and teaching methods change all the time; the teacher needs to stay up to date to teach better, keep up with the students, and grow professionally. — Teaching well requires always learning: continuing education keeps the teacher up to date and effective.
