- Why does true science not oppose the Bible?
Answer: Because true science and the Bible have the same origin: God is the author of both nature and the Scriptures. Science studies how the creation works, and the Bible reveals who created it and why — fields that complement each other rather than contradict. Many of the greatest scientists believed in God and saw research as 'thinking God's thoughts.' Conflicts arise not from science itself, but from mistaken interpretations of both science and the Bible. The order, the laws, and the design of the universe point to an intelligent Creator. — Science and faith are not enemies: studying the creation with humility brings the human being closer to the Creator.
- Explain the relationship of the scientists below with their faith in God.
- Nicolaus Copernicus;
- Johannes Kepler;
- Galileo Galilei;
- Isaac Newton;
- Robert Boyle;
- Michael Faraday;
- Gregor Mendel;
- Lord Kelvin (William Thompson);
- Max Planck;
- Albert Einstein;
- Louis Pasteur.
Answer: 1) Nicolaus Copernicus: a canon of the Church, he was deeply religious and saw the study of the cosmos as contemplating God's ordered work; he dedicated his work to the Pope. 2) Johannes Kepler: a devout Christian, he said that in studying astronomy he was 'thinking God's thoughts after Him' and saw the laws of the heavens as an expression of the Creator's mind. 3) Galileo Galilei: a devout Catholic, he asserted that the Bible teaches 'how one goes to heaven, not how the heavens work' — faith and science do not contradict each other, since both come from God. 4) Isaac Newton: he wrote more about theology and the Bible than about physics; he saw the universe, with its perfect order, as proof of the existence of an intelligent and powerful Being. 5) Robert Boyle: the father of modern chemistry, a fervent Christian, he funded the translation and dissemination of the Bible in several languages and wrote about the harmony between science and faith. 6) Michael Faraday: a fervent Christian and active member of his church, he saw his scientific work as a way of admiring God's creation. 7) Gregor Mendel: the father of genetics, he was an Augustinian monk and abbot; his pea experiments in the monastery garden founded heredity. 8) Lord Kelvin (William Thomson): a convinced Christian, he openly argued that nature reveals design and purpose, pointing to a Creator. 9) Max Planck: the founder of quantum physics, he asserted that both religion and science lead to God and that at the end of the scientific path stands God Himself. 10) Albert Einstein: he believed in a superior intelligence that manifests itself in the order and harmony of the universe, declaring himself in awe before the laws of nature. 11) Louis Pasteur: a devout Catholic, he said that 'a little science distances one from God, but much science leads back to Him' and that more knowledge brings man closer to the Creator. — History shows that faith and science walked together in many of humanity's greatest minds.
- Cite a phrase about God from each of the scientists presented below:
- Arthur Eddington;
- Allan Sandage;
- Charles Townes;
- Werner Von Braun;
- Max Planck;
- Antoine Henri Becquerel;
- Andrews Millikan;
- Erwin Schrödinger;
- Edward Mitchell;
- Louis Pasteur;
- Isaac Newton;
- Albert Einstein.
Answer: 1) Arthur Eddington: 'The idea of a universal Mind or Logos would be, I think, a fairly plausible inference from the present state of scientific theory.' 2) Allan Sandage: 'It was science that showed me God exists.' 3) Charles Townes: 'Science and religion seek, together, to understand the truth and meaning of the universe.' 4) Wernher von Braun: 'The more I understand the complexity of the universe, the more I believe there is a Creator behind it all.' 5) Max Planck: 'At the end of the path of science stands God.' 6) Antoine Henri Becquerel: 'It was my work that led me to God, to faith.' 7) Robert Andrews Millikan: 'I can affirm with all certainty that science and religion can work side by side without contradicting each other.' 8) Erwin Schrödinger: he recognized a greater reality and consciousness behind the laws of nature, saying that science alone does not answer the ultimate meaning of things. 9) Edgar Mitchell: he reported that, upon seeing the Earth from space, he felt the presence of a conscious intelligence behind the universe. 10) Louis Pasteur: 'A little science distances one from God; much science leads back to Him.' 11) Isaac Newton: 'This most beautiful system of the Sun, planets, and comets could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being.' 12) Albert Einstein: 'Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind.' — The very words of these scientists show that many saw, in the order of the universe, the mark of a Creator.
