What is the Whoopie Sling used for?

Anchoring limb- and trunk-lowering ropes in arborist rigging; Attaching a block, pulley, or Port-a-Wrap around the trunk without knots; Quickly adjusting the tension and length of the loop in the field; Hammock suspension while camping; Adjustable anchoring for heavy loads where you want to avoid fixed ties.

How do you tie the Whoopie Sling?

The Whoopie Sling is an adjustable-length loop made from high-modulus braided rope (Dyneema), widely used by arborists for rigging in trees. It works like a Chinese finger trap: when loaded, the buried section grips down and locks, and loosening it lets you adjust the loop's size without tying any knots. Follow the illustrated step-by-step, with a photo for every stage, on Desbravai.

Is the Whoopie Sling hard to tie?

The Whoopie Sling is rated hard, in the Loops category and is taught with a photo at every stage on Desbravai.

What precautions apply when using the Whoopie Sling?

The buried section needs enough length to hold under load; a short bury can slip; Inspect the high-modulus rope for wear, since it's sensitive to abrasion and friction heat; Always check the rope's working load limit before using it in heavy rigging.
