Slip Knot

A temporary holding knot that unravels with one pull of the working end — the base of knitting and quick adjustments
Also called: Slip Knot, Nudo corredizo, Nudo deslizante, Nó de laçada solta, Noeud coulant, Slip knot · ABOK #529
What it is for
- Starting a row of stitches in knitting and crochet (it's the first loop on the needle)
- Temporarily tying a rope to a post, ring, or hook to release it quickly afterward
- Adjusting the tension of tents, tarps, and clotheslines that need to be released easily
- Holding a bundle or sack while you tie the final knot
