What is the Halyard Hitch used for?

Securing the halyard to the head of the sail; Fastening the line to a shackle, block, or fitting on the mast; Tying lines to rings and eyelets on boats; Attaching flags and pennants to hoisting lines; Permanent fastenings that need to hold tension.

How do you tie the Halyard Hitch?

The Halyard Hitch secures the halyard (the line that hoists a sail) to the head of the sail or to the mast's hardware. It's a compact, secure knot built to withstand constant tension without slipping loose or snagging on the block. Follow the illustrated step-by-step, with a photo for every stage, on Desbravai.

Is the Halyard Hitch hard to tie?

The Halyard Hitch is rated medium, in the Hitches category and is taught with a photo at every stage on Desbravai.

What precautions apply when using the Halyard Hitch?

Check that it's snug, since a halyard failure can drop the sail while under sail; Don't use it on worn line or line with a compromised core.
