He preaches on Sabbath, visits families during the week, prepares baptisms and, more often than not, splits his schedule among several churches in the same district. Once a year, the Seventh-day Adventist Church sets aside a Saturday in October to thank him for that work, along with the family at his side: it is Adventist Pastor Appreciation Day, officially Adventist Pastor and Ministerial Vocations Day in the South American Division (SAD). In 2026 the date falls on October 31, according to the Ministerial Association poster published on the division's official downloads site. This guide compares the 2026 date with the published rule and with previous years, shows where to download the materials, and explains how your Pathfinder Club can share the tribute among its Units.

What is Adventist Pastor Appreciation Day?

Adventist Pastor Appreciation Day, officially Adventist Pastor and Ministerial Vocations Day (Dia do Pastor Adventista e das Vocações Ministeriais), is the date when the Seventh-day Adventist Church in South America honors its pastors. The celebration is coordinated by the Ministerial Association, the church department devoted to pastoral ministry, and its official page sums up the idea: October has been designated by Christians around the world as Pastor Appreciation Month, and the church picks one Saturday that month for the tribute. In the United States, the North American Division marks the month too: in a 2020 video greeting published on nadadventist.org, NAD president G. Alexander Bryant said that October "has been designated by our country [the U.S] as Pastor Appreciation Month."

The tribute reaches more people than the pastor in the pulpit: it includes his family and those who carry out ministerial work. That is why the pastor's family shows up in several of the official suggestions, such as the special prayer and the invitation to a meal.

The second part of the name, Ministerial Vocations, is about calling, which is what the word vocation means. For Pathfinders ages 10 to 15, it opens a good conversation: how the pastor realized God was calling him to ministry.

In everyday club life, the district pastor supports the spiritual direction while the leadership team runs the meetings, as the guide on the role of the church and the pastor in the club explains.

When is Adventist Pastor Appreciation Day 2026?

The 2026 date is Saturday, October 31, printed on this year's official poster, which the Ministerial Association published on the church's downloads site.

Here is the detail that trips many people up: the official Pastor's Day page says the church celebrates the date always on the second-to-last Saturday of October. October 2026 has five Saturdays (3, 10, 17, 24, and 31), so the second-to-last would be the 24th. The poster, however, marks the 31st, the last Saturday of the month, and the published material does not explain why.

With two different official pieces of information on the table, go with the specific one: the poster was made for this year, while the rule describes the custom. Before you lock in the program, confirm with your district pastor or with your Conference or Mission.

Don't confuse it with Brazil's National Evangelical Pastor's Day (Dia Nacional da Pastora Evangélica e do Pastor Evangélico), created by Law 14,970 of September 13, 2024, and celebrated on the second Sunday of June.

Heads up: holiday calendar websites work out Adventist Pastor's Day on their own and can get it wrong. In October 2026, one of them listed the 19th, a Monday. The safe reference is the Ministerial Association's material.

Why does the date of Pastor Appreciation Day change every year?

The date moves because the published rule fixes a day of the week, the second-to-last Saturday of October, and that Saturday lands on a different date depending on the calendar. In the eight editions from 2017 to 2025 with the day printed on official material, Pastor's Day followed the rule and fell between October 18 and 23. That held in 2021 and 2022 as well, when October had five Saturdays, just like 2026. The exceptions sit at the two ends of the table: in 2013, the Notícias Adventistas news site announced October 26, the last Saturday of that month, and in 2026 the poster marks the last Saturday.

The takeaway for club leaders: don't work out future dates on your own. On the club calendar, write "Pastor's Day, October" and confirm the Saturday once the year's poster comes out in the official kit.

What are the 2026 Pastor Appreciation Day theme and Bible verse?

The 2026 poster is titled Um ministério centrado em Cristo (A Christ-Centered Ministry), with the line Seguindo os passos do Mestre (Following in the Master's Footsteps) just below it. The chosen verse is 1 Corinthians 2:2, which in the New International Version (NIV) reads: "For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified."

Paul wrote this to a divided church, where some said "I follow Paul" and others "I follow Apollos" (1 Corinthians 1:12, NIV). His answer was to put Jesus at the center of everything, good advice for a pastor and for any Unit Counselor.

The footsteps line echoes 1 Peter 2:21, which speaks of Christ "leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps" (NIV). In John 10:11, Jesus calls himself "the good shepherd"; to bring that image to a Unit worship, use Psalm 23 explained.

Themes change with each edition. In 2025, the poster read "Chamado para cuidar" (Called to Care), with Acts 20:28; in 2024, the headline was "Ministério" (Ministry), with the line "Pastor e esposa, unidos e transformando vidas" (Pastor and wife, united and transforming lives).

In 2026, the 31st coincides with Reformation Day: on that date in 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. Your club can tie both themes together on the same Sabbath with the guide to the Protestant Reformation.

Where can you download the 2026 Pastor Appreciation Day poster?

Everything is on the church's official downloads site (downloads.adventistas.org), on the Portuguese-language Dia do Pastor Adventista kit page. The 2026 set has four files: the poster as a PDF, a post, a feed image, and a big-screen slide, all produced by the Ministerial Association.

The same page holds materials from previous years and a congratulations letter (Carta de Parabéns) prepared by the Ministerial Association to greet pastors. The short link adv.st/diadopastor leads to the project page, with the tribute suggestions.

At the club, print the poster for the bulletin board, use the big-screen slide to open the meeting, and agree with the church's communication team on who posts the image, so the pastor doesn't get the same artwork from ten people.

How can Pathfinders honor the pastor on Pastor Appreciation Day?

The Ministerial Association lists seven ways to honor pastors and their families. They were written for the whole church, but they fit club routine well: each Unit takes on a task, the Counselor follows the preparation, and on Sabbath the club delivers everything together.

No one has to do all seven. Two or three done well leave a bigger mark than the whole list done in a rush. The club chaplain can coordinate the spiritual part, and the interview works best with open questions, such as the moment the pastor felt the call.

Official suggestionHow a Unit can do it
Celebrate Pastor's Day at churchThe Director arranges with church leaders a moment in the worship service for the club to take part, in uniform
Special prayer for pastors and their familiesThe Unit chaplain leads the prayer, and each Pathfinder writes a blessing request for the pastor's family
Interview the pastor's familyOne Unit prepares five short questions and sets up the interview ahead of time with the pastor and family
Invite the pastor's family to a mealWith help from parents, the club serves a simple snack after the service or the meeting
Letter or card signed by membersEach Unit makes a page with drawings and messages, and the club puts them together into one card
The song the pastor's family likes bestThe leadership team quietly finds out the song, and the club rehearses it in the meetings before
Phone call, text, email, or social media messageThe Unit captains record a group audio message or write a note on behalf of the club

What message should you write for Adventist Pastor Appreciation Day?

The message that touches most recalls something that really happened, like a hospital visit or the prayer before a club trip. Ask each Pathfinder to write a sentence that starts with "Thank you for" and finish it with a concrete fact. A pastor can spot a line copied from the internet a mile away.

Two models for anyone stuck in front of a blank page: "Pastor, thank you for praying for our Unit before the campout" and "Thank you for sharing your time with so many churches and still remembering our club." Younger kids can draw, and older ones write.

If you want to add a verse, Paul asked the Thessalonians to treat their leaders this way: "Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work" (1 Thessalonians 5:13, NIV). Another short option is Philippians 1:3 (NIV): "I thank my God every time I remember you." Giving thanks in writing is also an exercise for the writer, and the piece on gratitude shows how to turn it into a habit.

What precautions should you take when honoring the pastor?

Plan everything ahead. A district pastor usually serves more than one church, and several congregations may want him on the same Sabbath. Ask the pastor, or the elder, what time he will be with you.

Look after the pastor's family. The pastor's children may be Pathfinders in your own club, and nobody likes being called up front by surprise. Ask first whether everyone is comfortable with the interview.

Photos and videos with Pathfinders follow the club's rules on images of minors, with permission from parents or guardians and publication on official channels. The child protection guidelines apply on celebration days too.

Money doesn't measure gratitude. The official suggestions are almost all gestures, and a keepsake made by the Pathfinders' own hands, within the club budget, says more than an expensive gift.
