In Barretos in January, the club's biggest opponent is rarely found in the competitions: it shows up in mid-afternoon, with the sun straight overhead and the water bottle empty. Health at the Pathfinder Camporee 2027, officially Campori DSA 2027, the 6th Camporee of the Seventh-day Adventist Church's South American Division (DSA), is prepared well in advance, starting with vaccines. The guidance sits in two official documents: the Guidelines Manual (Manual de Orientações) and Official Bulletin No. 01/2026, which brought a list of recommended vaccines. This guide puts the two together, compares the list with the calendar of the SUS, Brazil's public health system, and shows what can still be sorted out in 2026.
How does health care work at Campori DSA 2027?
Campori DSA 2027 takes place at Parque do Peão in Barretos, São Paulo state, Brazil, in two stages: Alpha (January 5 to 10, 2027) and Omega (January 12 to 17). Dates, theme and registration are in the complete guide to Campori DSA 2027.
According to the Guidelines Manual (edition of November 5, 2025), there will be a central hospital and medical posts at strategic points around the grounds, staffed by 3 doctors and 6 nurses sent by each Union. If needed, hospitals in Barretos and São José do Rio Preto will be called in. The same Manual warns that there will be no pediatrician on duty.
Each case will be assessed using the medical form filled out in the registration system. So check, in the Club Management System (SGC), every participant's allergies, current medications and emergency contacts. The fields and the privacy precautions are covered in the guide to the Pathfinder medical form.
The club may bring a health professional (optional, 18 or older and an active church member), who uses the medicines in the club kit and works shifts at the Union's medical post; the discount and the points are in the Campori DSA 2027 requirements. Under Bulletin No. 01/2026, whoever runs the infirmary does not go to the community service projects during the same hours.
Vaccines for the Pathfinder Camporee 2027 in Brazil: what does the Official Bulletin recommend?
Official Bulletin No. 01/2026, dated July 19, 2026, devotes a full section to vaccination. The argument is about the group: an event with thousands of people from several countries helps vaccine-preventable diseases spread, with the risk of an outbreak at the grounds and on the way home. That is why the organizers recommend that everyone catch up on any missing shots before the trip.
Based on the schedules of the Brazilian Society of Immunizations (SBIm) and Brazil's National Immunization Program (PNI), the Bulletin lists for Pathfinders aged 10 to 19: complete hepatitis B, at least one dose of MMR (measles, mumps and rubella), a tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough booster, meningococcal ACWY and B, this year's flu shot, up-to-date COVID-19 and pneumococcal according to age. The adult list is similar and includes a single dose of yellow fever vaccine. People with a chronic illness or a weakened immune system, pregnant women and older adults should have an individual assessment before the event.
The Bulletin says nothing about proof of vaccination at the gate; if your Conference or Mission asks for more, follow the local rule.
Which teen vaccines does Brazil's SUS offer, compared with the Camporee list?
Not everything the Bulletin recommends is on the SUS routine schedule. The table compares the Bulletin with the National Vaccination Calendar of Brazil's Ministry of Health for ages 10 to 19.
Meningococcal B is not on the SUS schedule for teenagers; the decision about it is a conversation between the family and the pediatrician. The SUS, for its part, offers HPV and dengue vaccines, which the Bulletin does not mention, with catch-up accepted up to age 14 years, 11 months and 29 days, and dengue availability may vary by municipality. Flu and COVID-19 shots are outside the routine schedule for this age group, and campaigns can widen eligibility: confirm everything at the UBS.
| Vaccine | Camporee Bulletin (ages 10 to 19) | SUS schedule (ages 10 to 19) |
|---|---|---|
| Hepatitis B | Complete series | 3 doses, depending on vaccination history |
| MMR | At least one dose | 2 doses, depending on vaccination history |
| Tetanus and diphtheria | Tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough booster | dT: booster at age 14 |
| Meningococcal | ACWY and B | ACWY: 1 dose at age 11; B is not listed |
| Flu and COVID-19 | This year's dose and up-to-date series | Not on the routine list for this age group |
| Pneumococcal | According to age | 20-valent only for Indigenous peoples with no vaccination history |
| Yellow fever | For people coming from areas where it is recommended (general list) | 1 dose; travelers get it at least 10 days before |
| HPV and dengue | Not mentioned | HPV4: 1 dose; dengue: 2 doses 3 months apart |

How long before travel should you get vaccines?
The Bulletin asks you to check the vaccination card at least 30 days before the trip; in practice, count back from the day the bus leaves. The road can be long: according to the Manual's table, it takes about 7 hours 30 minutes from Belo Horizonte to Barretos, 18 hours from Porto Alegre and 40 hours from Rio Branco. A club leaving on January 4 for the Alpha stage should have everything checked by December 5, 2026; a club leaving on January 11 for Omega has until December 12.
The Bulletin also advises going to a health unit as soon as possible if a dose needs updating, bringing the paper or digital vaccination card to the event and seeing a doctor if a fever or any sign of infection appears before departure. For yellow fever, when indicated, Brazil's Ministry of Health asks for the shot at least 10 days before travel.
How do you protect yourself from extreme heat at the Barretos Camporee?
The Manual expects 30 to 40 °C (86 to 104 °F) in Barretos in January, with heavy downpours, and states that all Camporee meetings will be held outdoors.
Brazil's Ministry of Health lists children, people with diabetes and people with heart, respiratory or kidney problems among those most vulnerable to extreme heat. The official advice is to drink water regularly even when not thirsty, avoid caffeinated drinks, wear light, light-colored clothing and save outdoor activities for early morning or late afternoon.
Between competitions, pacing becomes a Unit rule: a full bottle before heading out, a break in the shade, cap on and sunscreen reapplied mid-morning and mid-afternoon. The Manual puts a cap and sunscreen on every participant's list and gives 10 points in the campsite inspection for drinking water.
Because Units always move together, a Manual rule, there is always someone to notice when a friend starts feeling unwell. The Ministry's warning signs (heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache, cramps and diarrhea) mean a trip to the medical post; first aid for heatstroke is in the guide to hypothermia, heatstroke and dehydration.
Barretos, Brazil weather in January: what should you do when heavy rain hits?
The Manual warns that heavy rain may come: every Pathfinder always carries a rain poncho, and mattresses and backpacks stay in plastic bags during the day, an item checked in the campsite inspection. The campsite needs its own spot for wet clothes, without using tent lines or signage ropes.
A wet sleeping bag steals your rest: socks and sleepwear travel in a separate, dry bag.
Against mosquitoes, the kit required by the Manual includes repellent, and the Bulletin allows volunteers to hand out dengue prevention material during the community service activities in Barretos. The order for applying sunscreen and repellent is in the guide to sunscreen and insect repellent.
What goes on the Camporee first aid kit list?
Each club keeps its own first aid kit, stocked in proportion to the number of campers. The Manual notes that the list may change in later bulletins; No. 01/2026, the only one posted on the event's official website as of early October 2026, left it unchanged.
The kit is worth 10 points in the inspection and is the supply the club's health professional works from. Having pain relievers in it does not authorize anyone to hand out medicine: giving medication to a minor depends on what the family authorized on the form, as the guide to the club first aid kit explains.
On carousel days, the small pouch that goes with each Unit carries only wound-care supplies, saline, sunscreen and repellent; medicines stay with the person in charge of health.
| Purpose | Items on the official list |
|---|---|
| Protect and clean | Box of disposable exam gloves, 70% alcohol, saline solution, aqueous povidone-iodine antiseptic, cotton and gauze |
| Secure and cover | Micropore or adhesive tape and adhesive bandages |
| Medicines and ointments | Pain reliever, fever reducer, pain-relief gel, Nebacetin ointment and anti-allergy cream |
| Skin outdoors | Sunscreen and repellent |

What medicine should you take to the Camporee?
At the Camporee, medicine has two places: the club's first aid kit, stocked from the Manual's list, and the luggage of anyone who takes long-term medication. On 18- or 40-hour trips, several doses fall during the bus ride, at times agreed with the adult sitting nearby. Medicines that need refrigeration, such as some insulins, call for a firm plan with the doctor, because there will be no electricity at the club campsites.
Brazil's Ministry of Health advises people with pre-existing conditions to monitor their symptoms during extreme heat and adjust medication under medical guidance, which means a doctor's visit before the trip.
The family's checklist: medicine in its original packaging, labeled with the Pathfinder's name; a copy of the prescription in the form; enough for the whole trip, with some to spare; an adult who keeps it and tracks the times; and any drug allergy clearly highlighted. The printed medical form also goes in the document folder the Manual requires from every club. In case of an accident, the Manual asks for the participant's ID and the guardian's proof of address so the insurance claim can be filed.
In the third letter of John, the elder writes to his friend Gaius: "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers" (3 John 1:2, NKJV). Getting the club's health ready before the trip is a practical way to live out that wish.
